Description
View from a quarter of a mile out on W. Promenade looking back to MGH. This shows some houses in the neighborhood, including a horse and wagon. The Prom is unpaved, and there is a wire fence on either side. The MGH building does not have the portico which was added to the main entrance in 1903. This is an interesting perspective which shows the hospital out in the open, true to the intentional design of allowing fresh air to circulate around and through the building. This was thought to help curb the spread of disease as were many of the interior specifications.
