In 2023, the MaineHealth Medical Group (MHMG) Academic Integration Committee (AIC) was tasked with exploring financial models that support the pursuit of academic aspirations of Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) across MaineHealth. The Academic Pathway program was developed from recognition that clinicians at academic medical centers benefit from protected time to pursue scholarly work. The program's purpose is to develop the next generation of clinician investigators, educators, innovators, and leaders at MaineHealth.
The Academic Pathway was first piloted in 2023 with ten faculty. Since then, it has grown to include approximately forty faculty and continues to grow.
