Objectives
1. Define and describe Systems-Based Practice (SBP) and Health Systems Science (HSS).
2. Describe the key challenges (and the “voltage drop”) in medical education in regards to systems alignment.
3. Highlight several opportunities for advancing SBP and HSS, including value-added medical education, systems citizenship, and clinical learning environments.
4. Identify strategies for integrating the tripartite missions of academic health systems, inclusive of education, research, and clinical operations.
