LEARNING OBJECTIVES FOR THIS PRESENTATION:
1. Define palliative care as a medical specialty and adolescents/young adults as an independent population worthy of special attention.
2. Appreciate transitions through which adolescents and young adults progress, and how these transitions affect the care of those diagnosed with life-limiting illnesses (recognizing most of the data we have is on cancer).
3. Identify differences in palliative care goals of adolescents and young adults compared with children or older adults.
4. Gain new strategies to talk about goals of care and end of life with adolescents and young adults at any stage of illness.
