Abstract
In March 2020 Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) suspended non-urgent services in order to respond to the emerging COVID-19 crisis. By July 2020 the system was prepared to re-open core services. Significant losses in staffing and a high backlog of demand required our primary care practices to think differently about operations in order to increase capacity while not burning out team members. A pilot team from our Saco Family Medicine Practice was selected to perform rapid tests of change with the goal of returning to pre-COVID visit rates (~16 visits per provider per day).
